The Proposal

The culmination of all of my Burning Man activities and the pinnacle moment, where

I become the bane of all single men by setting the bar slightly higher than usual.

This is where I propose marriage to my sweetheart on my motorized couch at Burning Man. I waited until everybody in our camp was fed, fully dressed-up, and had a drink in their hand. The guys were all privy to the surprise, and orchestrated some hokey picture-taking that ended up with Karen on the couch and me on one knee. Talvin Singh swelled up from a boombox in the background. The women all held their breath!

It took a quick second for her to realize this was her big moment. After she opened the tiny hand-carved box and saw the loose diamond, she was surprised when I whipped out a second box.
Inside was a hand-made sterling silver ring, engraved on the inside with the date, and bearing a very special kind of fitting (She's so cute right here).
I carefully placed it on her finger, and lightly turned the fitting clockwise to tighten it down...
...and a microchip inside began flashing an array of tiny light emitting diodes in a brilliant sequence of red, green, and yellow. Very flashy and want-to-get-afterish!. (I know some alchemists who work in the Precious Metal Arts.)

If it looks like I'm blissed-out, it's because literally I am. Look carefully: Karen is applying pressure to an acupuncture point on my earlobe that alleviates sudden fits of panic in newly-engaged men, inducing a momentary euphoria. (I don't even remember this part.)
